EASTER

I stay here staring at the title written on my screen, written in block letters

Like the words written in black ink, six in number are enough to convey the weight of what this word means

Easter! That death’s sting would cease to hurt

That Sin’s reign has run its course

That we are no longer poor

Easter! For we have come to realize what true freedom is

He became bound in the shackles, Human life so that we may experience true freedom

He came to make us just like Him

Easter! that a man would live for the sole purpose of death

not dying like some a man who was destined to leave the scene at the end of roll call

That all his life he lived to slay death

Easter! that blood would wash away all sins

what the blood of livestock could not

this blood would purchase life for all

Easter! the assurance of eternal life

That because one God-man rose from the grave

We know that we would surely rise again.

Easter! That because of a love that spans all time

Greater love hath no man than this, than a man should lay down his life

A love that took Him to the cross

This isn’t a tragic love story because we know that it didn’t end with death winning.

Death is dead, we believe in Jesus, we can not be held captive by death

Happy Easter

Why go to church?

This post was triggered by a conversation I had with my dad
It was just a regular car ride on another weekday morning and we ended up on the topic of “church”.

What’s the church to you? (let me know in the comments before you read the rest of the post)

What is the Church?
1. Church is the body of Christ 1Corinthians12:27, Ephesians 4:12

2. The Bride of Christ Revelations 21:2

3. The church is the gathering of believers; Paul begins his letter to the churches by greeting the gathering of believers at each location his Apostolic ministry took him to; 1Corinthians 1:1-2, Ephesians1:1

This post is targeted toward believers to emphasize the importance of the Church.

After COVID year, 2020 online church became something so popular and online church was so convenient, a platform for believers to still fellowship and gather even during the lockdown.

I found it very convenient personally. I would just get up, brush my teeth and show up in the parlour, I didn’t have to change my clothes or have a bath to be at “The gathering of believers” because as long as I had light (electricity) church was brought home.

Initially, I didn’t like it but then I became comfortable, it became routine, and I got used to it.

When the lockdown in Nigeria was called off, I had mixed feelings, it was harder getting up earlier and having to pick an outfit to wear every Sunday.
As I got to church that Sunday I realized that I had missed it, going to church, seeing people that weren’t my parents(I was locked down at home with them), meeting with believers, and fellowshipping with them.

Thank God for the internet during the lockdown because it helped us fellowship and although the lockdown has long been over in Nigeria, in many Christian homes, the lockdown has yet to be called off.

They get up on Sunday mornings to sit in front of a tv and tune in to virtual church.

The devil has always been crafty; he tells them that the bible also says “when two or three are gathered”, well you are three! There’s you, your wife and your child.

As I write this I know there are situations that are the exception, such as if you stay in a place without a local assembly , if your country is still on lockdown just to name a few of those exceptions but fellowshipping with a physical community is important, especially one where you are submitted to authority.

“even though” “even though”.

This is directed especially to people who think their online Christian community is enough or that they having prayer a couple of times with their friends is enough.

IT’S NOT ENOUGH!

A very wonderful wise man of God once said “heaven won’t be online”.

Let’s open our bibles and get down to it:

1. Paul didn’t write letters to Individual families but to each church; although the churches gathered in people’s homes that’s because they couldn’t build actual churches in those times like the buildings we have today.

2. It was Jesus’ plan for us to be in a church, to have a shepherd.

3. A church helps keep you accountable: we all know and recognize that accountability is important in accomplishing our goals. It is God’s desire for us to grow in the things of The Spirit, being submitted to spiritual authority in the person of your local pastor is very important.

4. When you see others work in the miraculous it stirs you up: The gifts we are given by The Holy Spirit weren’t instilled in us to be used in isolation, they were given for the edification of the body. Seeing someone function in their spiritual gift stirs us up to further good works. “ginger is contagious”

I pray this post blessed you, make sure you go to Church this Sunday.
